"Prince Hal" Newhouser won back-to-back Most Valuable Player awards (1944-1945), and with his blazing
fastball, he became a strikeout king. Over 17 campaigns, 15 with Detroit, he won 207 games. From 1944
to 1946, he recorded win totals of 29, 25 and 26, consecutively, with annual ERAs of 2.22, 1.81 and 1.94,
respectively. Newhouser hurled the pennant clincher for the Tigers in 1945 and followed with two World
Series victories over the Chicago Cubs.
