Ted Lyons, baseball's most consistent pitcher for two decades, won 260 games in his 21 seasons with the moribund Chicago White Sox. After jumping straight from the Baylor University campus to the major leagues, he won 20 games three times, leading the league twice. In 1942 the 41-year-old Lyons enjoyed one of the most unusual seasons in baseball history: as the White Sox drawing card, he pitched nearly every Sunday afternoon and went 14-6 with a league leading 2.10 ERA, completing all 20 of his starts.
