Always displaying a calm, professional demeanor, the unflappable Walter Alston managed the Brooklyn
and Los Angeles Dodgers for 23 seasons, winning seven National League pennants and four World Series
championships. His squads would win 2,040 games during his tenure, the seventh highest win total among
major league managers. He helped to establish a “Dodger Way,” which many of his former players later
used to become successful managers themselves.
